From research to real-world impact
The Foundation — IISc, M2D2 Lab
Both founders pursued their Direct PhD at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, working within the Multidisciplinary and Multiscale Design and Device (M2D2) Laboratory under Prof. G. K. Ananthasuresh. This period laid the intellectual foundation for everything that followed.
The lab cultivated a distinct way of thinking — one rooted in multidisciplinary problem-solving, hands-on prototyping, and rapid iteration. Exposure spanned mechanics, MEMS, biology, electronics, haptics, sensing, actuation, and microscopy.

Over the course of this journey, the team has produced 40+ publications, patents, and technical contributions spanning compliant mechanisms, force sensing, micro-manipulation, and mechanobiology.

Bridging Research and Application
Through postdoctoral and research roles, the founders extended their work into real-world systems — corneocyte handling, compliant endoclips, and tissue manipulation mechanisms.

Early Ventures and Validation
Selected as Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EiR) at IISc under the CPDM initiative. Partnered with leading MNCs on compliant and biomedical system redesign. The first products were developed and deployed:

BendFlex® was conceived not as a single-product company, but as a problem-solving engine — applying design thinking and compliant mechanisms to solve real-world challenges across domains.
SpOvum — Engineering Meets Healthcare
SpOvum Technologies Pvt. Ltd. was spun off to bring compliant mechanism expertise into reproductive healthcare — focusing on IVF automation, robotic micromanipulation, and AI-enabled clinical systems.

Depth, Intellectual Property, and Deployment
This period saw a deepening of capabilities and broader deployment:

- Development and deployment of RoboICSI and related clinical systems
- Convergence of mechanics, automation, and AI into integrated solutions
SpOvum matured into an ISO 13485-aligned MedTech company with multi-center IVF deployments across India.
